Hula Halau

I recently did a series of portraits for a local Hula halau (dance school). This one, of the kumu Hula (Hula teacher), was one of my favorites.

Candlelight Vigil

When I'm photographing an event, one of the things I like to look for are the "texture" shots - the little details that help round out the detail and emotion of the day. This is a recent example, taken at a candlelight vigil held by a local non-profit. Does it tell the story, all by itself? No, naturally not. But facial expressions and dancing candle flames help round out the picture of what happened that night.

Zeal For Life

One of the things I love about photographing kids is their unbridled sense of excitement about everything. Kids, for the most part, embrace all the world has to offer with both hands and all their heart, and with a purity and zeal that I find refreshing. The adult word teaches us in many ways to guard our emotions, and I think something important is lost because of it.
